JAVEA is an hour’s drive from Alicante. A very well run Parador is beside the Arenal beach in a small town nestling between two headlands in the loveliest part of the Costa Blanca. All rooms have balconies and sea views, and the well kept gardens lead to the sea. A perfect base for a short or long winter break.
EL SALER was recently rebuilt on its original site between the Albufera Reserve and a long, sandy beach, just 15 km from the city of Valencia. It is Photo surrounded by a 27-hole championship golf course El Saler so an ideal base for golfers or non golfers. The Parador has a spa and indoor pool.

NERJA, although an expensive Parador in high season, the winter rates are much lower. Situated on a cliff above the Burriana beach it has its own lift from the garden to the beach. Most rooms have balconies and sea views. Nerja is 50 Km from Malaga, so could be combined with a few nights at MALAGA GIBRALFARO beside the castle walls on a hill above the city.

MALAGA GOLF is only a 5-minute taxi journey from the airport, so very accessible for a short break, but equally good for a longer holiday. Surrounded by its 27-hole golf course, which leads to the beach, it is in a tranquil corner of the Costa del Sol. All rooms have balconies or terraces. A local train runs from the shopping centre nearby to the airport and city centre.

***31 January – 5 February: Escorted winter break staying at the Parador at Malaga Golf at a special reduced rate***

AIGUABLAVA, although one of the most expensive Paradores in Summer, it has exceptionally good rates in low season. Perched on a headland in the quietest corner of the Costa Brava, this is a paradise for those who want to get away from it all. A car is necessary as there is no public transport  to the village of Begur, 5 kms away. All rooms have balconies and sea views. Why not combine 5 nights at Aiguablava with a 2 night city break in Barcelona?

MOJACAR is beside the beach in the province of Almeria in the south east corner of Spain, which claims to have the best weather. The  Parador is at sea level below the “Pueblo Blanco” (white village) of Mojacar with a regular bus service to the village. A very relaxing place for a winter holiday.

***Pools in Paradores are seasonal and not necessarily open between mid-October and mid-June but all these Paradores are beside the sea which is usually warmer than the pools***

LORNA ROBERTS HOLIDAYS act as the central reservations office in Ireland for bookings at any of the 96 Paradores in Spain. We are able to work out the best rates by taking advantage of the various promotions which we can offer, although these do not appear on other booking sites ( etc). Paradores are constantly announcing new offers at different times of year and in different Paradores. We check them all and then work out the best possible rate. Here are a few of the promotions:

GOLDEN DAYS: One person sharing a double room must be 55+ to receive the discount

YOUNG ESCAPE:  One person sharing a double room must be between 18 and 30

5 – NIGHT CARD:  This is a very flexible offer that can be used in just one Parador,

in 5 different Paradores or any other combination and is valid to the end of the year.

600 Euro for 5 nights B & B for 2 people sharing.

The card also gives a 20% discount on any meals taken in the Parador.

Some of the more expensive Paradores have a supplement.

2 –NIGHT HALF BOARD OFFER: This offers a substantial discount for Dinner B & B if spending 2 nights in the same Parador.

PARADOR ROUTES: These are fixed 3 and 7 night routes on certain dates at very low prices.

PROMOTIONS FOR “AMIGOS DE PARADORES”: These change all the time, and very often only have a limited number of rooms available. Sometimes they are better rates than the other offers but at other times Golden Days and others are less. We can book all the Amigos offers but will always compare the rates with the other promotions.

Lorna Roberts has written detailed accounts of all 17 regions of Spain and their Paradores. These can be useful when planning routes. If you would like to receive any of these we can email them to you. See below for a map and pictures of the different regions.

Lorna Roberts has been the official representative in Ireland for the Spanish Parador hotels for 22 years and since 2002 has taken over 60 groups on interesting routes around "Real Spain", staying in Paradores. Lorna now works with Keytours  so that the UK and Ireland  are working together for Spanish Paradores and Portuguese Pousadas.

The Paradores are owned by the Spanish government who, since 1928 have restored historic buildings and converted them into stylish, comfortable hotels. Their keywords are CHARM, QUALITY and HISTORY. The first Parador was opened in1928 in Gredos in the mountains West of Madrid.  There are now 93, many of which are in former castles, palaces, monasteries and convents. Others are in spectacular coastal settings. Most of these are modern buildings, purpose built in the style of the area, as the location is selected rather than the building. Two exceptions are at BAIONA in Galicia, where the Parador is a fortress on a headland with stunning Atlantic views, and at HONDARRIBIA where a castle stands above the Basque town with views of the Bay of Biscay and the French coastline. A new coastal Parador has opened  in a spectacular setting on the Galician coast at Muxia, close to Cape Finisterre

Other Paradores are in World Heritage cities, in National Parks, and in some of Spain's most famous cities such as TOLEDO, SEGOVIA, AVILA, GRANADA, SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, CORDOBA, MALAGA and SALAMANCA.

There are 5 Paradores in the Canary Islands and 2 in the Spanish enclaves in North Africa at CEUTA and MELILLA.

BY STAYING IN PARADORES YOU WILL DISCOVER "REAL SPAIN" - so different from the overcrowded and overpriced resorts.

Located on the banks of the Guadalete, this Parador, formerly the Casa del Corregidor, has an impressive panoramic view of the fertile plain of the river and of the old area of Arcos de la Frontera.

The bedrooms with terraces offer magnificent views of Arcos and, inside the typical Andalusian courtyard, there are traditional decorative features such as latticework and ceramic tiles.

Cangas de Onis

This monastery declared to be a National Monument in 1907, which features an added wing of perfectly harmonious architectural and constructional qualities, is a jewel set next to the river Sella.

This Parador, with its modern and comfortable installations, is the ideal platform from where the Asturian landscape can be admired. Enjoy the characteristic fiestas, ancestral folklore, and taste the best and most genuine of its rich gastronomic recipes.

Parador at Aiguablava

This modern 4 star Parador is superbly located on the Punta D'es Muts, it is surrounded by pine trees and overlooks the ocean.

This is the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful beaches, cliff walks and to explore the coves in an unspoilt, natural environment.

In this Parador you will feel that you are back in the Middle Ages. Thick stone walls, arches, armour and spears adorn this castle which was founded in the 10th century by the king Sancho el Fuerte of Navarre.

Since 2002 Lorna Roberts has organised holidays for small groups travelling around the Paradores and therefore discovering some of Spain's lesser known and most interesting areas. More holidays are planned for this year....
